> Stop your PC from locking or going to sleep

There are instances where you actually don't want your computer to sleep or throw up a screen-saver. It may be while watching a movie on your PC or while running some applications (like some browser scripts or PC scans) which work fine when your machine is active.

If you are very good with computers, you may find a solution within your system settings. But if you don't want to get into all this, there is a simpler solution.

Just download "Caffeine"

Caffeine will keep your system awake. It works by simulating a keypress once every 59 seconds, so your machine thinks you're still working at the keyboard, and won't lock the screen or activate the screensaver. It's that easy.

Caffeine is a small application that runs in your system tray. It's the leftmost icon, as seen in the image below.

Double clicking the icon will enable or disable the application.

> Best free Proxy site

The content below is meant for information exchange. I take no responsibility of any unethical use of it what so ever.

If you feel you are not able to access some online content quite often, the first thing you do is to check if the resource itself is unavailable or you have been blocked from accessing it. Once you've figured it out, you try and use alternate means to access it. No matter how much you deny this unethical behavior, everybody does it for sure ;) That's the reason the Proxy sites exist and survive.

There is a long list of Proxy sites available on net. Most of them offer free services. I may list them in some other post. For now, I would like to share a site that is free and lets you access sites which otherwise you may not have access to.

Introducing "Punky - social network"

It's probably named that way, as it smoothly opens blocked access to 2 major social networks like "Facebook" and "Twitter". Besides primary focus on these 2 networks, Punky also offers access to most other sites.

> Free online TV channels

There have been several queries on Google for free online Television (TV). Ofcourse this requires very good internet connection, but most people have it these days.

You could find several websites that can provide Online TV experience. Most of them are paid and those that are free may not provide you a smooth interface. Paying for the service should not be a problem, unless you are dead sure that the service you are paying for is worth all those bucks.

At this point I would be pleased to introduce you to a site that gives you a convenient user interface, almost umpteen live channels across the globe and all this for no cost to you (except your internet usage charge if you incur any).

Visit the site Here and follow the simple steps below.
1) Create your free account and login to the site.
2) Select your Country and your favorite genre from the list

3) You will require to download and install a browser plugin - SopCast.
4) For now, SopCast only works with Internet Explorer (IE), so make sure you use this browser.
5) Now before you proceed to the channel, the application will require access to your Facebook.
If you are fine with this, it seems a small price to keep the service free.

Once all the above things are in place, you can access the requested channel.

The buffering time depends on the broadcaster and your net speed. It may vary on external factors. The difference in time between online channels and the channels you actually see on Television may vary at a range of few minutes to few hours depending on server time. So just relax and enjoy your online TV experience.

My overall rating to this service would be 4 out of 5. Try it yourself and let me know how it works for you.

> All in One - Multimedia File Converter

Lets say, you wish to convert some multimedia files. The formats you are looking for range from AVI to DAT or 3GP to OGG or MP4 to some Apple Ipod supported. and the list goes no. There are lots of converters that can do the task, but will it be practical enough to download separate converters for each conversion type?

What if I introduce you to One Application that handles it all? You name the multimedia format and the Application will have the codec for it.

This software has been on the net for a long time now, but still most users have never heard about it.

The Software is called - SUPER (Simplified Universal Player Encoder & Renderer)

As the name suggests, this software is a Masterpiece. It's simple to use yet very efficient to convert (encode) or play any Multimedia file.
The interface is so userfriendly, that once you download the software, you will not require any manual to understand it's functions.

SUPER comprises of 2 components:-

1) The Player - Which surpasses any known player by supporting just any Multimedia file format. It plays most files that cannot be played with WMP or even other libavcodec-based players like MPC and VLC. It even plays and saves Internet Media Streams of different protocols ( mms:// rtsp:// http://)

2) The Encoder - Which is the fastest and simplest tool to encode full length movies to any other format without any time or function limitation.

The best part is, SUPER is absolutely FREE and requires no additional codecs or components for its working. Everything is built-in.

This is till now the best All in One converter i've come across.

> Get free targeted Traffic in minutes

Getting traffic on your site can be classified in 2 types
1) Long lasting Traffic
2) Instant Traffic

Creating a long lasting traffic may take upto months and may sometimes be frustrating, but still it's rewarding in the long run. However there are some impatient webmasters out there who wish to have instant traffic to their site. In this effort, they take steps that can be time consuming but total waste.

If you search the web for quick traffic, you'd get several systems. Most of them will include "Surf to Earn traffic". This method is very crude and may give you quick traffic, but non targeted. It's time consuming. The surfing ratio and the wait time aren't practical. Due to this the bounce rate could be as high as 95%.

Don't lose hope here. There is still a great system out there that can give you what you need. Free visitors to you site, most of them have a potential to turn into customers.

The site works on 4 key aspects that tend to give you targeted visitors.

1) Members directory traffic - By joining, you will be included in members directory which is visited by a community of over 250,000 members, and thousands of outside visitors on a daily basis.

2) Referral based traffic - This is a free version of Network marketing - by registering and promoting your linkreferral link, an exponential growth of 5 levels of referrals can be created. It works because its free, fast to register, easy to implement and no risk. People that are referred from your site will benefit from your promotions, hence being referred is good.

3) Search engine traffic - By registering, you'll benefit in several ways, which includes
>> having your webpage indexed more quickly - the major search engines continuously spider this site, and the sites listed in their directory.
>> Improved Page rankings in search engines and also SEO optimization.
>> Indirect search engine traffic via linkreferral. Pages such as your directory listing and your affiliate page listing feature your link and description. They are picked up by all the major search engines. Your sign-up description, combined with a strong traffic base can pull in a significant immediate steady traffic to your listing on linkreferral and then on to your web site.

4) Linkreferral forums traffic - By participating in forums, you'll build relationships and your reputation within the linkreferral community and improve the odds of successfully converting visitors to customers. You can promote your listing by putting a query or giving comments, each post you make actively displays your link, category and member profile.

Apart from this, you are expected to perform a simple routine task that brings your listing on top of the category. This ensures, you get a desired share of your traffic.

> Online Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

Just a few lines on OCR for those who are not familiar with it. OCR viz Optical Character Recognition is a smart piece of software that can extract TEXT from an image or a similar file and provides it in an editable format. You can then Copy/Paste the output into your favorite text editor.

Almost all recent scanners have an inbuilt OCR that can manage an image to text conversion, but what if you wish to perform OCR on an image file that you received in mail. You obviously won't print the document and then scan it again to get the Text right :)

As always, there is a solution for this. The easiest method would be doing it online. Just visit OnlineOCR

Some key features for OnlineOCR
1) Online OCR supports 28 languages world wide
2) It can handle 8 file formats
  > PDF (All types of PDF files including multi-page PDFs)
  > TIF/TIFF (Multipage TIFFs supported)
  > JPEG/JPG
  > BMP
  > PCX
  > PNG
  > GIF
  > ZIP files containing the above types of files can also be uploaded.

3) Service gives possibility to convert the output in 6 formats
  > Adobe PDF
  > MS Word 2003/XP
  > MS Excel 2003/XP
  > Html 4.0
  > RTF
  > Text Plain
4) Its free to use for 5 images

The only drawback I see here is... Once you create an account, you get just 5 free credits and each credit lets u convert 1 entire page. In simple terms, 1 account = 5 credits....Now I don't have to tell you how to go about this :)
Still further, if you want some more credits, you can participate in their free bonus credit programs or simply purchase the credits if you like it.

> Manage Twitter more efficiently

As you know, Twitter has become a great marketing tool these days. The more followers you have on Twitter, the more popular are your Tweets and that means you get more exposure to your content.

But with all these good points there is also a lot to manage. With so many followers and so many that you follow, you may tend to miss out some important tweets.

This is where you start searching some tools that can automate certain things for you and you could get more control of your Twitter.

There are lot of tools available to work around with. My favorite is ManageTwitter. I use it very often.

ManageTwitter is an Account Management tool that takes care of all your Followers in your account.
> It cleans up and manages who you follow.
> It finds out who isn't following you back.
> It finds out which inactive accounts you follow.
> It easily searches inside your Twitter stream.

Using this tool will reduce lot of your manual work. You can reach the site HERE.

> Creating a Ghost Folder

Creating a ghost folder or an invisible folder is not meant to protect your data or to hide your files. It's meant for fun. You could just show it off to someone who is not familiar with it. The trick is very simple and is tested on Windows XP and Vista. You can surely try it on other OS as experiment :)

Procedure:
1) Create a new folder anywhere in you system (Right-click > New Folder)

2) Make sure you use the Numpad to name the folder.
3) Once the folder is created, just Right-Click and rename or hit (F2 key)
3) Now rename the folder as "ALT + 0160" (Key combination for a blank character)
4) Once this is done, you will see a blank space as the folder name.

5) Now that you've hidden the name, you can proceed with hiding the folder icon
6) Right-click on the folder icon and click "Properties"
7) In the Customize Tab click "Change Icon"

8) From the list of icons that you see, select a blank icon (a blank visible space between icons) and click "Ok"

9) Your invisible/ghost folder is ready.

10) Though its easy to trace them out, try not to create too many of them. You may tend to forget removing them and they could unnecessary clutter your disk.
